East Liberty Family Health Care Center (ELFHCC) is a jewel of Christian health care right in our own back yard. Many Hebronites are and have been involved in providing care there, and many receive care there. Hebron has provided support to ELFHCC for many years, but as the Mobilization Team (i.e. Missions Committee) reviewed our giving, it became clear that ELFHCC’s budget is so large, and our contribution was relatively small, that we began to consider where those funds might be put to better use. We wanted these funds to be more directly involved in advancing God’s kingdom; and yet, ELFHCC’s ministry is such a Christ-honoring ministry, that we wanted to continue to support them and share in their service.
We finally decided not to simply place these monies into ELFHCC’s entire budget as we had been doing, but instead to interact with the health care providers there to see if we could help them in ministering to the spiritual needs of their patients. We are starting this endeavor by purchasing adult and children’s Bibles that the providers can distribute to patients as they see the need. Our hope is that we can find more ways to help ELFHCC fulfill their mission “to witness to God's love, known in Jesus Christ, by empowering [their] patients through community centered, whole-person quality health care for all, which includes those who are uninsured, underinsured, and underserved.”
