The Blessing Board

by Rick Bender

The Blessing Board is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization existing to provide donated household furnishings to those in need at no cost in response to what God has done for us.

For nearly ten years The Blessing Board (TBB) has been offering free furniture to veterans, fire victims, women escaping abusive relationships and the destitute. When people come to TBB, they are fed in several ways. They hear the Gospel and the reason TBB exists. They receive a New Testament/Psalms. They are given donated goodies from Panera or Oakmont Bakery; and, oh yes, they pick out their own furniture. Finally, they are encircled for prayer. In 2018, 1458 families were served, and are on track to serve 1700 families this year.

The Blessing Board couldn’t exist without the generous donations from individuals, churches, businesses, and foundations. Recently The Blessing Board received a grant that has enabled it to update the McKeesport location, hire additional drivers, warehouse help, and administrative staff to expand the McKeesport responsibilities.

If you are looking for a way to serve the Lord and make a real difference in the lives of people in your own community, give The Blessing Board a try. You can help by donating financially, donating your unwanted pieces of furniture, linens, kitchen items, artwork, or volunteering your time by helping in the sorting room, being a carrier or ambassador /ambassador assistant. You can volunteer to help in the warehouse and, of course, in regular prayer. You may also like to visit the Vintage Market which has a lot of unique beautiful items for sale. All the money that the Vintage Market generates goes right back into The Blessing Board to help pay overhead.

If you would like more information, check out their website: theblessingboard.org or seek out someone from Hebron who is already involved. There are quite a lot of us.
