RUF Spring Break

 By: Hannah Kern

My name is Hannah Kern, and I am currently a senior at Penn State in RUF’s (Reformed University Fellowship) campus ministry . Our mission trip this year was filled with hard work, fellowship and insightful conversations. We are very grateful to Hebron Church for hosting us and supporting us on this mission! I am thankful for the group of students who gave up their spring break to work in an impoverished community near my hometown of Pittsburgh.

We partnered with Open Hand Ministries, a group in East Liberty, who teaches financial literacy to people in poverty to improve generational wealth. We spent five days renovating a home in Garfield, as well as serving dinner at the weekly financial class. Throughout the work week, our group installed a front porch, added drainage to the house, and renovated a back patio. This week we met people who pushed our ideas on wealth, safety and joy. Our group had the opportunity to see God's providence and blessings at work. He was so good to us!

Thank you all for giving our group the opportunity to learn lessons and develop further in our walk as Christians. We are grateful for your hospitality and prayers for us – and for Pittsburgh!

Editor’s Note: Hebron hosted this group from RUF in the Barclay Building while they worked/served.
