In Matthew 4 we read about Jesus' temptation. He is tempted by Satan, who takes truths and twists them to try and turn Jesus away from His Father (for more on that watch Pastor Henry's sermon titled “The Process of Temptation”). It is no mistake then that Jesus responds to these temptations with the Word of God.
I know in my life being in the Word is essential. It is as close to necessary as water and food. In the pages of the Scriptures I learn and encounter a God who doesn't give up and is always good for His Word. It is through the gift of Scripture that God returns my attentions to His love. I remember about 5 years ago I was sitting alone in the woods with a Bible and I found myself crying to God. "I'm sorry,” I remember saying. I was sorry for not reading His Word much at all the past year. I was sorry that I hadn't made time to sit with Him and hear His truth. In that cry God caught my attention and turned my heart toward the truth of who I am in Christ, "I love you Son."
Lies are all around us, and the best way I know how to engage them is with the truth of God's Word. That is why every Sunday during the 11 o'clock hour we are going to be hosting a Bible study in the youth rooms. Every three years we will walk through the entirety of the Scriptures together, communing and learning about our Father in Heaven.
A few notes concerning Covid-19. For those who plan on coming, please send your students through the main/tower entrance. (If unsure where that is, I will be there directing traffic.) Also, I will be asking that we wear masks while inside.
