Happy Birthday, Lost and Found Pharmacy & Soda Fountain!
Yes, with all the roadblocks that had to be overcome before the doors were finally opened, it is hard to believe that we are coming up on the first anniversary of this unique venture. Already Lost & Found has created an impact on the Penn Hills Community.
Under the direction of Sean and Shannon Parsons, Lost & Found has created a place where people can come to fellowship, share in a game night, attend a Grove, bring their children to story time, host a birthday party, and enjoy a treat from the soda fountain. Most importantly, people who are experiencing the Medicare Gap can now avoid deciding between whether they purchase their medication or pay a utility bill. Last year financial assistance was given to reduce the cost of 51 prescriptions for uninsured or underinsured people. In terms of dollars and cents, $3,675.36 of Gap prescription costs were absorbed by the Lost & Found Pharmacy. In addition, they provided at no cost $5,400.00 of insulin, Albuterol and Lantus from drugs donated to their redistribution program.
If you feel called to help, consider the following easy actions. First, offer prayerful support for staffing the pharmacy and applying for grants. Second, utilize the pharmacy for your own prescription needs.
(Processing of prescriptions not under Medicare helps to underwrite the program and your co-pay is the same or less than other pharmacies.) Third, spread the word about the mission. Even after a year, many people from Hebron are unaware of what Lost & Found is all about. Finally, stop in and ask Sean and Shannon what you can do to help. Even if it is something like sitting down and talking to patrons, it can make a difference in someone’s life.
