PitCare is a faith based community development non-profit located in Pitcairn, PA. We seek to help people overcome poverty by applying biblical principles to their daily lives. Poverty comes in many forms. We are all familiar with the issues surrounding financial poverty, but we also have to contend with spiritual poverty in our community. There is little gospel witness in Pitcairn, and most of the families we serve have little or no spiritual awareness. We also contend with what I call poverty of spirit. Generally speaking, people here have no desire to be different. They do not understand or value hard work or education, and are content enough in their situation that while they may not like living in poverty, they have no real motivation to do what is required to live differently.
These problems/attitudes get passed from generation to generation. So we are taking a two-pronged approach to ministry here. The first is to try to break the cycle of poverty by working with children. Our Boys and Girls Clubs seek to instill spiritual values and stress the importance of education starting in grade school. Our work with adults is to try to find those who have felt a need to change and lead them through the process. We are deeply grateful for the support Hebron has shown our ministry.
