Why does St. James Fellowship exist? Six words. Light, truth, grace, meaning, beauty, purpose.
We serve the aging and disabled who are usually hurting and lonely. We conduct our chapel services, our visits, and our small groups to convey the beauty and meaning of God and his kingdom for them. We advance the light and truth of the Gospel by building relationships with people and developing congregations in the facilities in which we serve. We sometimes help these people with their temporal concerns.
As the Director of St. James Fellowship, I serve, on a daily basis, those with Parkinson’s Disease, MS, Alzheimer’s Disease, open sores, amputations, surgeries gone bad, mental problems, learning disabilities, hospital infections like C-diff, heart/lung issues, and last but not least, broken bones from falls. Additionally we reach out to those who have hurt themselves seriously with their own sinful behavior or who have been neglected by others.
We try to overcome the institutional with the personal. Since our Savior was God Incarnate, we attempt to reflect the light of his Incarnation into the souls of others. We provide the Word, the Sacrament, and the personal touch. We trust God to do the work with his Holy Spirit in the souls of the people whom we serve.
St. James Fellowship, a mission church, serves the lost, the searching, and the righteous in seven different types of care facilities as well as 10 people in their homes or apartments in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh.
It is a beautiful, but always difficult mission. A mission of light, truth, grace, beauty, meaning, and purpose.
