Student Ministries: Growth Is Our Win

By Carrie Hendrickson, Director of Youth Ministry

The WHY Behind Student Ministries at Hebron

We believe that God will use Hebron Students to show Himself to the world. All students are created in the image of God and we want to leverage opportunities to teach, love, and come alongside the 11-18 year-olds. We want to AFFIRM every Middle School student that they are created in God’s image. In High School we want to help MOBILIZE students’ faith into action. We believe that every week matters as we proclaim the Word of God, partner with parents, and provide godly people to persevere in students’ lives—pointing them to Jesus. Growth is our win and we want every student to grow in making wise choices, building godly relationships, and deepening their faith. We are excited and honored to be used by God in students’ lives; and we can’t wait to continue to see God move and change students to look more and more like Jesus.

Adventure Weekend
On April 21 to 23, 6th to 12th grade students went to Adventure Weekend to play, hang out, hear God’s Word proclaimed, and worship together. Hebron joined along with 3 other churches to run Adventure Weekend at a place called Teen Quest. Teen Quest is a beautiful camp with horses, paintball, an activity barn (trampoline, skateboarding, gaga ball, and many other fun things) in Somerset, PA. The camp’s primary focus is on discipleship and challenging students’ faith to go the next level.  Joel Friend, a North Hills Youth Pastor, spoke to the students about their story and how God doesn’t just want to be a part of our story; but that we are part of His story. Students wrote their testimonies and shared them in groups. Two of Hebron’s high school students stood and shared their stories to the whole camp.

God moved in amazing ways throughout the weekend. Lives were changed. New commitments to Jesus were made and students shared their faith with leaders and peers. God is continuing to challenge and change students to look more and more like Jesus.  Continue to pray for the twenty-two middle school students and the eighteen High School students who went and whose lives were changed at Adventure Weekend.

Summer
Summer is a busy but exciting time in Student Ministries at Hebron.  We will take three trips this summer and would love to have your prayer support through them all!  We know that God is going to change lives and we can’t wait to see Him do amazing things this summer in and through our students.

South Dakota: Students who just finished 8th and 9th grades will travel to South Dakota on June 18-26. This is a trip about setting standards for godly living. We have lessons on integrity, dating, friendship, wise choices, quiet times, alcohol/drugs, sex, and victory. We travel across the country and visit farms, the Black Hills, Wall Drug, and much more. It is a great trip to build community and learn about how God wants us to live out our faith.

Work Camp: High School students will be traveling to Safe House in Atlanta, Georgia July 9-15. We will be working with the homeless and impoverished throughout the week, showing people Jesus as we meet, play, and plan services – all to help, motivate and empower people through building relationships. This trip is an eye-opening week as students get to know and see people differently. Worldviews will be widened and God will use Hebron Students to show Himself to the world.

Surf City: 5th to 8th graders will travel to Michigan to attend Surf City on August 6-11. This week-long camp is on Silver Lake and features a private beach, wave runners, horseback riding, worship and tons of other activities. The Gospel message is presented in a creative and exciting way throughout the week. Students have time dedicated to spend with Jesus and many students point to this week in their lives as life-changing.
