Pittsburgh Region International Student Ministries
Every year hundreds of international students and scholars come to the Pittsburgh area to further their university studies. P.R.I.S.M.’s mission is to share God’s word with them in hopes that they will experience a personal relationship with Christ and come to know Him and His word. Many of these students do not have the opportunities in their home country to freely go to church and learn the Bible or openly express their faith. Some have never even read the Bible before.
Through various social activities P.R.I.S.M. develops a friendship with a lot of these students and their families. From English conversation classes to cooking classes, day trips, and weekly open houses on Sunday nights at Bellefield Presbyterian Church in Oakland, students get the opportunity to meet Christians and develop friendships. They kicked off the school year in August welcoming over 400 international students with their annual garage giveaway. Through the generosity of local Christians, students received free beds, cooking items, and various other household items to help them get settled.
Weekly Bible studies are offered to those students who are interested in learning about God’s Word. They are given the chance to explore and deepen their faith.
Over the years many students from around the world have been led to a personal relationship with Christ thanks to the generosity and work of those at P.R.I.S.M. While some of these students may not be able to keep going to church when they return home or openly talk to people about their faith at home, the fact that they have left Pittsburgh with a relationship with Christ is a wonderfully joyous thing.
