Erica Seabold - The Congo

Living a Beyond lifestyle can often involve taking uncomfortable leaps of faith. The Missions Committee continues to see God’s hand at work through the agencies that put their faith in him, as well as individuals who feel the calling to serve in short term mission trips.

This past summer, the Hebron Missions committee provided financial support to Erica Seabold (formerly Graham) on a medical mission to trip to the Congo. While there, Erica was able to build relationships with fellow students who together served the patients at the Pioneer Christian Hospital. Erica’s story does not end there however. Near the end of her stay, a man came back from the jungle to the hospital in critical condition. The staff was able to stabilize him until a medical transport could be arranged via air ambulance. Erica felt that God placed her in the Congo for this event.

Erica offered to be the man’s patient advocate to transfer care and patient information. As a result, Erica’s trip home would take an unexpected detour through Johannesburg, South Africa. Although Erica was unsure of where she was going to sleep, eat, or exchange currency, God provided. While the patient did not survive, Erica gained assurance that he was a believer and went to be with the Lord. Through her experience of serving the patient and his family, interacting with the medical teams and flight crew, Erica was able to witness God’s provision and faithfulness.
